Key Priorities
Strengthen existing Rent Stabilization and Just Cause Evictions & Protect Small Property Owners
Ensure strict enforcement of current rent stabilization laws and expand our rental registry program along with our housing department
Protect and provide tenants with legal support from unjust evictions and small property owners from abuse
Provide resources for small property owners navigating our rent stabilization and just cause eviction ordinances
Ensure all informational materials are accessible in Spanish/English languages and safeguard rights of both renters and small property owners
Enhancing and Supporting Public Safety
Implement community policing strategies to increase trust and cooperation with our BGPD
Partner up with a camera system like ‘Ring’ to offer our residents with a discount promo
Expand our neighborhood watch program and ensure residents are up-to-date with information by continuous involvement at all our cultural and park events
Provide educational resources and self-defense classes at our local parks
Job Growth/Union Apprenticeships
Promote job creation through economic development and ensure a local hire initiatives are set for all projects
Support our small businesses with grants and incentives that are struggling to stay afloat
Partner with local unions to increase apprenticeship opportunities for all Bell Gardens residents
Offer job training and skill development programs hosted in our city
Expansion of Senior Programming
Implement programming and outreach efforts to include all seniors living across our city
Expand Senior health and wellness programs and partner up with local community aerobics groups such as Vida Sana to host Zumba and mindful meditation exercises to combat anxiety and stress
Increase the number of excursions available for our Seniors throughout the year to include diverse activities catering to a variety of preferences
Improve public transportation routes to senior centers and key locations throughout Bell Gardens and the region
Expand access to technology and digital literacy
Implement a program to expand our free WiFi program from city/county facilities to FREE citywide WiFi
Outreach to our most-involved community members from our city programs, Bell Gardens Uncensored and other groups to assist in a call to action with download of our city-app etc.,
Teach and guide our residents on the process to submit a concern/complaint directly on our BG Connect app.
Partner up with Montebello Unified School District and the Los Angeles Community College District to provide computer/technology literacy classes
Supportive Housing/Homelessness Services
Expand partnership with the County of Los Angeles to do homeless outreach in both the Los Angeles and Rio Hondo Riverbeds
Assist Union Pacific with homeless outreach on the railroad located on the South and North sides of Bell Gardens and ensure CalTrans does continuous maintenance of our 710 freeway on/off ramps
Support community land trusts and cooperative housing models for our city
Expand access to emergency shelters and transitional housing for our neighbors with children and pets
